Son of God – Chris Renzema
We have seen the glory of the Lord rise with broken lives restored
But not by governments nor fire
We have felt the touch of heavens hands mend the bones and hearts of man
But not by medicine nor idols
We have tasted mercy undeserved, bought for the children of the earth
But not by silver nor by gold, but by the One who left His throne

We’ve seen graves and oceans bow
Before human feet, dawn is breaking now
Darkness must retreat for the Son of God, He walks among us

We have heard the promise of a land where war will cease from among men
But not by presidents nor trials
We have seen the greatness of our King, hope that all will be redeemed
But not by military might, but by the Man who bled and died

We’ve seen graves and oceans bow
Before human feet, dawn is breaking now
Darkness must retreat for the Son of God, He walks among us

We’ve seen signs and wonders here
Held in human hands, a Kingdom carried near
Scorning hell’s demands for the Son of God’s alive among us

He’s alive among us
He’s alive among us

We’ve seen graves and oceans bow
Before human feet, dawn is breaking now
Darkness must retreat for the Son of God, He walks among us

We’ve seen signs and wonders here
Held in human hands, a Kingdom carried near
Scorning hell’s demands for the Son of God’s alive among us

Yeah, He’s alive among us
He’s alive among us
The Son of God’s alive among us
He’s alive among us
The Son of God’s alive among us

Ephesians 6:10-18

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

John 14:15-24

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

In Ephesians 6 we are told to prepare for spiritual battles. This can sound intimidating. A couple things I want you to remember are: 1) Our preparation is in prayer and supplication, in keeping God’s commands. 2) This is done through God’s strength in us. We are not left alone to face them. 3) There’s no way for us to avoid these spiritual battles. No matter how intimidating, they are happening all around us at any given moment. Perhaps not always in our own personal lives, but in family, friends, or neighbors’ lives. We should be seeking God and asking Him to help us recognize these battles and how we can pray and take action to bring Him glory through them.

The Spirit of God is among and within us. He is omnipresent, He dwells in us. It should not surprise us that these battles are going on constantly. Our enemy, Satan, undoubtedly hates God’s omnipresence and attempts to mask that by wreaking havoc spiritually and in turn, in our physical lives. The only way to win a spiritual battle is through the Spirit. However, the world does not see these spiritual battles as they are. They have not had the Spirit of God revealed to them, so how could they? The way one is revealed to His Spirit is through the acceptance of Christ. Through the gospel (2 Cor. 3:14-16). Unless people are going and proclaiming this good news, telling people God’s story, how can we expect them to be revealed to the Spirit? How can we expect lives to change and the fight to be won (Romans 10:14-17)?

This is not me telling you that if you aren’t planning a mission trip in the next 24 hours you aren’t following God’s will. This is me offering all of us something to consider. We were told that if we love Jesus we’ll follow His commands which includes “go and make disciples of all the nations.” (Matt. 28:18-20) That being said, don’t forget that your own country is indeed a nation. Our priority even within our everyday lives must be the proclamation of Jesus’ Kingdom. That is our purpose, to glorify His name, love Him, love His people. Don’t allow fear or intimidation from those spiritual battles happening all around to blind you from the knowledge that you have authority over them through Christ. Don’t let them blind you to your commission to go and show others how they are able to receive that same authority.

Thank you for reading! It has been on my mind a lot recently that our current events go much deeper than government, laws, or crises. I think many people, specifically Christians have recognized that our current state stems from issues of the heart. While we should certainly fight for more just laws and government systems, we must not forget that the heart is where evil actions stem from. That’s why our priority as Christians must be to love and share the Gospel. That’s how lives are changed and battles are won. This is our purpose, to glorify God’s name. May He guide you so deep into His love that you cannot help but declare His goodness. So friends, abide in Him. May He bless you and keep you. Have a wonderful week!
